Compose project titles with Title formats
Decide how a project title reads across WorkWiser by composing it from the project’s own fields, for example “{Job No}. {Name} {City} {Country} - {Code}”. You build the format once with a chip editor and a live preview, and every project title follows it.
A title format is a small recipe made of field chips and plain text. WorkWiser fills the chips in for each project when it draws the title, so the composed title is worked out fresh every time it is shown.
It is display only: nothing is written onto the project, and clearing the format brings back the plain name instantly.
Before you start
- You need the Admin role, or the "Manage title formats" permission an admin can grant you. Title formats are an organization-wide setting.
- It lives under Settings, in Workflow, in the Title formats section.
Build a project title format
Open Title formats
Go to Settings, then Workflow, and find the Title formats section. Use the Project title editor.
Add fields
Click “+ Field” and pick a project field: Job No, Project Name, Code, Site, City, Country, Client, and more. Each field you add becomes a chip.
Country comes in two forms: “Country” shows the full name (Germany) and “Country code” shows the short code (DE). Pick whichever reads better in your titles.
Type the separators
Between the chips, type the punctuation and spacing you want, such as “. ”, a space, or “ - ”. A common format is “{Job No}. {Name} {Site} {City} {Country} - {Code}”.
Check the preview and save
The live preview shows the title against a real project as you build. When it reads right, click Save title formats.
How it behaves
Empty fields collapse cleanly
If a project has no value for a chip, that chip and its separator simply disappear. “{Job No}. {Name} - {Code}” with no Job No reads “Name - Code”, with no dangling dot or dash.
Clients can override the org default
The organization format is the default. A client can carry its own project title format, which wins for that client’s projects. If neither is set, the plain project name is used.
See what an empty editor inherits
Leave a title editor empty and it shows the format it falls back to as faded chips, with the live preview using that inherited format, so you always see how a title reads today. Click those faded chips to start your own format from that one; clear it again to go back to inheriting.
It shows where you scan projects
The composed title appears on the Projects list and on each project’s header, and search still matches both the underlying fields and the title you see. On the header, any field that already appears in the title is dropped from the line beneath it, so a value never reads twice.
Deliverables have their own titles too
The same idea shapes deliverable titles, composed from a deliverable’s own fields plus its project’s (so a deliverable can lead with its project’s Job No, or a custom field like a drawing number). See “Compose deliverable titles”.
