Connect apps and AI assistants

Let a desktop app, or an AI assistant such as Claude, read the projects, deliverables and people you can already see in WorkWiser. Read only: it cannot create, change or delete anything.

Before you start

  • No special role needed. Any member can connect an app to their own account.
  • An admin can switch connected apps off for the whole organization. If they have, the sign-in tells you so.
  • A connection reads one organization. If you belong to several, you choose which one when you approve it.

Connect Claude as an AI assistant

  1. Add WorkWiser to Claude

WorkWiser speaks MCP, the protocol AI assistants use to read other apps. Its address is https://wiser.works/api/mcp.

In Claude Code, run this command:

claude mcp add --transport http workwiser https://wiser.works/api/mcp

In the Claude apps, add a custom connector with the same address.

  2. Sign in to WorkWiser

Claude opens WorkWiser in your browser. Sign in if you are asked to. Nothing has been shared yet.

  3. Review and allow

WorkWiser shows which app is asking, the organization it will read and, in plain words, what it will be able to read. Choose Allow to connect it, or Don't allow to stop here.

Under the organization it says who is signed in, and the app will read as that person, so check the name before you answer. If it is not you, choose Not you? to sign that account out of this browser. Sign in as yourself and you are back on the same request.

  4. Ask your question

Back in Claude, ask about your work, for example: what is due this week on project E03649?

Connect a desktop app

  1. Choose Sign in to WorkWiser in the app

The app opens WorkWiser in your browser, and you approve it the same way: the app, the organization and what it can read.

  2. Go back to the app

After you answer, the browser hands you back to the app on your computer. If the tab stays open, you can close it.

To read another organization later, sign in again from the app and pick it when you approve. The new connection replaces the one the app had on that computer.

What a connected app can see

Exactly what you can see in WorkWiser, and less: projects, their deliverables with their custom fields, and the members of the organization. Never rates, invoices, time entries, email or files.

It reads only. It cannot create, change or delete anything, and every request it makes is checked against your access at that moment, so if your access changes, so does what it can read.

Disconnect an app

  1. Open Connected apps

Click your profile picture at the bottom of the sidebar and choose Connected apps. On a phone, open the menu first. Each connection shows the app, what it can read, when it was connected and when it was last used.

  2. Choose Disconnect

Confirm, and the app stops working at its next request. To use it again, connect it again from the app.

For admins

Admins also see the connections everyone else in the organization has made, under Everyone else in this organization, and can disconnect any of them.

Allow connected apps in this organization is the switch for everyone. Turning it off pauses every connected app at its next request. Connections are kept, so turning it back on restores them.
