Guide
Notifications
Keep up with everything happening in your workspace, from the notification bell in the sidebar to push alerts on your phone.
Before you start
- No special role needed. Notification settings are personal and available to everyone.
- Manage them under Settings, in Preferences, in the Notifications section.
The notification bell
The bell sits next to your account in the sidebar (in the top bar on mobile), on every screen. A small badge shows how many unread notifications you have. Notifications come from across WorkWiser: a teammate mentioning you, a brand new email arriving, a new reply on an email thread, an invoice that was issued or paid, an email account that needs attention, and more.
Click the bell to open the list. Click any notification to jump straight to whatever it is about, like the deliverable, the conversation, or the invoice, and it is marked as read. Use Mark all as read to clear the badge in one go. When there is nothing waiting, you will see “All caught up!”.
Choose what you get notified about
In Settings › Preferences › Notifications, switch each kind on or off to match what matters to you.
New messages
Messages in conversations assigned to you.
@mentions
When someone mentions you in a message, a comment or a note.
Assignments
When a deliverable or to-do is assigned to you.
New email threads
The first email in a brand new thread, so a fresh enquiry never sits unseen.
Email replies
New replies to email threads, and follow-up reminders.
System notifications
Invoices, approvals, and other system events.
Turn on push notifications
Open the Notifications section
Go to Settings, then Preferences, and find the Notifications section.
Enable push
Click Enable Push Notifications. Your browser will ask for permission, so choose Allow. Once it is on, WorkWiser can alert you even when the app is closed.
Repeat on each device
Push is per device. Turn it on once on your laptop and again on your phone to get alerts in both places.
A banner when new mail arrives
While the inbox is open, a message landing in a mailbox you can see shows a small banner with who it is from and what it is about. Click it to open that thread. If several arrive at once, they collapse into a single "5 new messages" banner rather than a stack.
The banner respects the choices you have already made. A conversation you muted stays silent, one set to mentions only speaks up when you are actually mentioned, and nothing appears for the thread you are reading or while the tab is in the background.
Notification sounds
Four short sounds, in Settings › Preferences › Notification sounds. One switch turns them all off, and each one has a preview button that plays it and shows you the banner it belongs to.
New mail
An email lands in a mailbox you can see.
Mentions
Someone mentions you by name.
Message sent
A message leaves your outbox, alongside the undo countdown.
Something failed
An action could not be completed.
Good to know
If you accidentally blocked notifications, WorkWiser cannot turn them back on for you. You will need to allow them again in your browser settings for this site, then come back and enable push.
The on and off switches above control which kinds reach you. The bell inside the app always keeps the full list, whether or not push is on.
Notification sounds play inside WorkWiser while it is open. A notification delivered by your phone or computer always uses the system sound, because the web gives a website no way to change it.
Browsers only let a site play sound after you have interacted with the page, so the first sound of a fresh tab may not arrive until you have clicked something.
